SOUTH OGDEN — A body found near a road Friday may have been there for months, South Ogden police say.
Police were dispatched to a report of a body found in the area of 4800 South and Washington Boulevard Friday evening. Officers located the body on the side of the road, police said.
Ogden resident Claudio Morales told KSL-TV that he found the body when he noticed two red shoes by a suitcase. When Morales went over to the person to see if they needed help, he realized the person was dead and the body was decomposing.
Morales said he ran out into the road to flag down a police officer who just happened to be passing by shortly after the discovery.
Police are still confirming the identity of the body but said the body was that of a male. They also said that the body may have been there since September and many people had passed by unaware it was there.
The person's cause of death is still unknown because of the body's decomposition, police added. Police said they are going through their database to see if anybody had been reported missing in the area.
