Members of Bally Total Fitness are wondering if they're going to get their money back now that the company is closing its Utah locations.
Stunned customers in Midvale and Sugar House are still gathering outside the locked doors today, some to get the phone number to call for a refund, others just to see if it's real.
One member, Bruce Pitts, said, "I was very surprised, my wife came to work out yesterday and found out that the spa was closed."
He's been a member here since it opened. "I guess I'm looking for another place to work out. I wish the government would bail out these spas," he said.
Another man said, "I talked with a guy who's a member here, too, and he paid last Monday for a whole year, and they never told him about it."
Pitts called Bally and was told he'd get a rebate check in the next week.
Pat McGregor says she'll probably join Gold's. Others are wondering if they'll be able to get their money back. The Utah Department of Commerce says if you have any trouble at all, you should make sure you've got your Bally's paperwork and give them a call.
The Utah Department of Commerce will handle complaints in the event you have trouble getting your money back. You can find out more about that process at ConsumerProtection.Utah.gov. E-mail: bbruce@ksl.com
