BOUNTIFUL — Bountiful running back Brigham Morrison said the Redhawks "just believed (they) were going to win," and that ended up being the difference in a 14-13 win over Box Elder Friday to take first place in Region 5.

It's hard to argue against Morrison after players on the Bountiful sideline were heard saying "this is where we win the game" after they were down 13-7 with 6:57 left in the game against the 5-1 Bees. And they did, thanks in large part to Morrison.

The junior was subbed on in the second half for injured starter Corbin Cottle and made his impact felt, running in a 37-yard touchdown off a pass from Owen Geilman with 2:28 left in the fourth quarter to eventually win the game for Bountiful.

"I don't usually go on offense — I'm a defensive player," Morrison said. "I just went in and knew I had to make a play on second-and-long, I think, or maybe third-and-long, but I knew I just had to (expletive) score. I just had to make a play, and I just made a play."

Morrison made the play on offense and then the defense later followed it up with a pass breakup from Ben Smith on fourth down to seal the win.

The Morrison touchdown was the first score from Bountiful since the end of the first quarter; at which point Box Elder went on a 13-0 run from the start of the second quarter until the game-winning score by Bountiful.

The Top 20 matchup lived up to the hype, with the two sides getting big stops and big plays all night. Geilman showed his dual-threat talent with an impressive running game in the first half, including a 32-yard run for the first score of the game.

Box Elder responded with a 22-yard run from Dax Sumko with 10:25 left in the second quarter and then picked off Geilman to start the following drive on defense. The Bountiful defense stepped up, as well, and held the Bees to just two field goals the rest of the game.

"That's just defense balling out," Morrison said.

Region 5 play continues next week with Bountiful traveling up the road to Viewmont and Box Elder taking on Woods Cross at home.
