WEST VALLEY CITY — A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition after being shot in the chest at a park in West Valley City on Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to reports of shots fired on 3090 W. Tess Ave. at Hillsdale Park about 3:40 p.m., and discovered the teen with a gunshot wound to the chest, West Valley Police Lt. Julie Jorgensen said.

The teen is reported to be "alive but unconscious," and was transported to the hospital to be treated, Jorgensen said.

While police don't have any suspect descriptions, there were witnesses at the park, and police were following leads and collecting surveillance footage.
