WEST JORDAN — A man was arrested Tuesday after police say he has been exposing himself and committing sex acts in front of girls near schools in West Jordan.
Investigators say the man has even researched how to knock someone out.
Raymond Carmona Cuevas, 24, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of three counts of lewdness, three counts of dealing in harmful materials to a minor, and four counts of stalking.
Since July 11, Cuevas has been driving around the area of Copper Hills High School, Hayden Peak Elementary School and West Hills Middle School, between approximately 4800 West to 5600 West, and 7800 South to 9000 South, and exposing himself to two girls, a woman and a cheerleading squad, according to police. He was arrested after being spotted following two teenage girls on Tuesday, police said.
The investigation began July 11 when Cuevas was spotted sitting in his car with no pants on while in the parking lot of a school where a group of about 20 girls were participating in cheerleading practice nearby, according to a police booking affidavit.
"Raymond's leg was outside of the vehicle and the door was wide open," according to a witness who was able to provide a description of Cuevas to police as well as his license plate number, the affidavit states.
Two days later, a 15-year-old girl reported that she was walking home when a naked man, later determined to be Cuevas, pulled over three times near her, according to the affidavit, adding that at one point, the girl "saw Raymond get out of the vehicle and pull his pants down to his ankles exposing his genitals."
Police say Cuevas did that two more times as the girl was walking home, including in the parking lot of the high school.
The next day, on July 14, a woman jogging near Copper Hills High School said she saw a man sitting in his parked car naked, police said. The man then passed the woman and parked at Hayden Peak Elementary School, apparently waiting for her to pass him again. The woman "observed Raymond completely naked sitting in the driver's seat with the door open," the affidavit states.
On Tuesday, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle following two 14-year-old girls in the same area as the other cases. Officers responded, spotted Cuevas and pulled him over. During a subsequent interview with detectives, Cuevas "admitted to intentionally showing his genitalia to females six or seven times," according to the affidavit.
"Raymond admitted to using his cellphone to watch videos where men expose their genitals using an anonymous video chat application. When questioned about Raymond's phone search history, Raymond reported he had searched if hitting someone over the head with a 'rock' would knock them out,'" the affidavit states.
Police continued to investigate Wednesday whether Cuevas could be tied to any other cases, and were in the process of searching his vehicle and phone, according to West Jordan police.
