PARK CITY — A bicyclist who died after swerving into traffic and getting hit by a truck on East Frontage Road near Park City has been identified, police said.

The bicyclist is identified as Hunter Thorstenson, 21, of Provo.

Thorstenson's family issued a statement that reads in part, "The tremendous and joyous light that he brought into this world will be forever mourned by all who knew him."

The incident happened around 3 p.m. on Thursday afternoon when police said Thorstenson was riding an electric bike southbound on the frontage road near Forestdale Road when he swerved "for reasons unknown" and crossed into oncoming traffic.

According to "multiple witnesses," the cyclist was then hit by a 44-year-old male driver in a northbound GMC passenger truck, who was "unable to avoid hitting the man on the bicycle," Summit County Sheriff's Office Capt. Andrew Wright said in a press release.

While the cyclist was wearing a helmet, Wright said that the impact caused "severe injury." Thorstenson was flown to the hospital, but died from his injuries.

Wright said that the crash investigation is ongoing.

"We offer sincere gratitude to Park City Fire District, Utah Highway Patrol, University of Utah AirMed and Park City Police Department for their help with this tragic incident," Wright said.

"We send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, and to those who were involved in and witness to this tragedy," Wright said.

Thorstenson's family said his funeral will be held on July 13 at 11 a.m. at 200 North Foothill Drive in Provo.
