PROMONTORY, Box Elder — One person is dead and another was seriously injured in two workplace accidents in the Promontory area in Box Elder County on Tuesday.
"At this preliminary stage, the county believes the two employees were involved in rollover (crashes) while operating UTVs in the course of their work. The ongoing investigation will determine (the cause and) give us more insight," Box Elder County Deputy Attorney Anne Hansen said in a statement.
"There were two separate crashes, they were traveling in two different UTVs and were working in different areas but within the same vicinity."
The injuries involved two seasonal workers for the Weed Control Department, Hansen said in the county's first news release. The first worker sustained a serious injury and was transported to the hospital and was reported to be in stable condition, and in the second incident that "immediately followed," a worker died on scene, she said.
Box Elder County is cooperating with Utah State Parks and the Utah Occupational Safety and Health Division while they work on the investigation, Hansen said, and the names of the employees have not been released.
"Our first concern is for the employees and their families," Hansen said. "Our hearts are with them in the face of this terrible tragedy,"
