MIDVALE — A 40-year-old woman was seriously injured after a crash on southbound Interstate 15 in Midvale that temporarily closed the freeway Sunday.
The woman was driving with a child in the back seat, when she started to move out of her lane to the left and hit another car, causing it to spin around, said UHP Cpl. Tara Wahlberg. Troopers received the call at 3:19 p.m., she said.
"Witnesses said that she just kind of slumped over, so we're thinking she might have had a medical episode," Wahlberg said.
The woman crashed into the wall before traveling back into traffic. Another driver then used his truck to stop her from moving forward. Wahlberg said the truck wasn't considered to be part of the crash, and there was little damage to the truck.
The child in the woman's car was uninjured, and the male driver in the other vehicle didn't have any life-threatening injuries.
At one point all lanes of southbound I-15 and the eastbound ramp from Interstate 215 to I-15 were closed, but Wahlberg said at least one lane of I-15 has reopened as well as the collector road.
Traffic was diverted off the freeway at 7200 South, according to UHP. Drivers could see major delays in the area.
