PRICE — A man accused of shooting at another vehicle while driving near Price while also transporting illegal drugs now faces criminal charges.
James DeSean Lockard, Jr., 28, of Ocean Shores, Washington, was charged Thursday in 7th District Court with attempted murder, a first-degree felony; illegal shooting, taking drugs into jail and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, third-degree felonies; three counts of drug possession, a class A misdemeanor; and drug possession, DUI, and possession of drug paraphernalia, aclass B misdemeanors.
Aabout 3:30 p.m. Sunday, emergency dispatchers received a call of someone shooting at a car near Price. The victims reported that a Volkswagen Jetta with a Washington state license plate had cut them off, and the driver then brandished a handgun at them before firing several rounds, according to a police booking affidavit. No one was seriously injured.
The Jetta was spotted by police near Helper and was pulled over.
"The driver had an excited utterance, saying, as soon as we approached his vehicle, that he only shot into the air, not at anyone," the arresting Utah Highway Patrol trooper wrote in the affidavit.
Troopers searched Lockard's car and found "numerous illegal controlled substances … including over 50 fentanyl pills found in a handgun lock case" in addition to $2,800 in cash, according to charging documents.
According to police, Lockard is from Washington and was in the process of moving to Texas.
