PARK CITY – A 21-year-old Park City resident has died from injuries sustained in an accident Friday at Park City Mountain Resort.
Summit County Sheriff's Lt. Andrew Wright said the department learned of the incident on Sunday when they received a call from the medical examiner's office.
"Up to that point, law enforcement had not been notified of the ski accident, which allegedly occurred in Summit County's jurisdiction," Wright said Monday.
Ski patrollers said that the man was skiing with his girlfriend and another friend when the three got off King Con lift and headed down the mountain, Wright said. The 21-year-old never made it down.
"When the girlfriend and friend got to the bottom of the run, they waited for the now deceased to come down the mountain," the lieutenant said. "The girlfriend got help from a ski patroller, who radioed for other patrollers to head down the same run to look for the 21-year-old."
The man was soon located at the bottom of what is believed to be a 30-foot cliff or embankment, Wright said. Life-saving efforts began and ski patrollers called for medical personnel to assist.
The man was flown in a medical helicopter to a hospital in the Salt Lake Valley, but he ultimately died. Wright said that the details of his injuries were not known as of Monday night.
The death of the 21-year-old appears to be a tragic skiing accident, Wright said.
