SOUTH JORDAN — A man who police say is responsible for a string of armed robberies at pharmacies throughout Salt Lake County was arrested by South Jordan police on Tuesday.
Nicholas Pike, 32, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of four counts of aggravated robbery and four counts of possession of a weapon by a restricted person.
In each robbery, Pike handed a note to a pharmacist "which stated something to the effect of, 'This is a robbery, you have two minutes to hand me the list of medications I wrote down. Don't go near the phones, and hand me back the note with the medications,'" according to a police booking affidavit. "In each of the four robberies, the suspect was found wearing the same gun-styled belt with a pistol holstered on the gun belt."
Detectives were able to retrieve one of the notes used in a robbery and pull fingerprints from it. They were also able to get a fingerprint from merchandise Pike allegedly touched in one of the stores before approaching the pharmacy desk and then compared it with the note, the affidavit states.
At the time of his arrest, Pike was out of jail on bail awaiting trial on another felony charge, according to police, who wrote that they are concerned that Pike will "continue to rob pharmacies to support his (drug) habit" if he is again released from jail.
The string of pharmacy robberies have been investigated by South Jordan, West Valley City and Unified police detectives.
