ELGIN, Emery County — A man is dead, and one adult male and two children were airlifted with serious injuries after the car they were in hit the back end of a trailer Sunday morning on 1-70 in Emery County.
The incident happened at about 1:46 a.m. when police say an eastbound Kia Sportage with two adult males in the front seat and two children in the back seat ran into the back of a Ford truck towing three vehicles that was parked in the emergency lane. It is not known why the driver drifted from his lane.
The male passenger in the car was killed at the scene of the crash, while the three others were transported to hospitals via medical helicopter.
The driver of the truck, who did not sustain injuries, had pulled off to the right-hand emergency lane to check his load west of Elgin near US Highway 6, police said.
The name of the deceased has not been released.
