SALT LAKE CITY — A man who allegedly fired numerous rounds at another driver has been arrested by Salt Lake City police.

Richard Marcus Parker, 21, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Sunday for investigation of aggravated assault and illegal discharge of a firearm.

On Saturday, about 5:30 p.m., two men met in a parking lot near 900 West and North Temple so one could pay the other for a construction job, according to a police booking affidavit. While the two men were talking, a third vehicle pulled into the lot. The driver, later determined to be Parker, tried to get one of the men to walk over to him, the affidavit states. The man, however, told police he became "suspicious" of Parker and started to drive away, the affidavit states.

The second man followed the first in his truck, who was, in turn, followed by Parker. As the men were driving, the man being followed by Parker called the other man and told him Parker had a gun, according to the affidavit.

"The witness said he then heard what he believed was six gunshots and the victim begin to yell he was shot," the affidavit stated.

Police found the shooting victim in his truck near South Temple and Redwood Road.

"The victim's truck had numerous bullet holes in the passenger side doors and windows and the driver's window was also shattered," according to the affidavit.

The man was taken to a local hospital where it was determined that he was not shot, but had been injured by glass from his windows being shot out.

Detectives canvassed the crime scene and collected shell casings and video recorded by surveillance cameras at nearby businesses. Using that information, police traced the suspect vehicle to Parker, who "has a history of robbery and firearms possession cases," and arrested him at his house, the affidavit states.
