ALTA — The Alta town marshal has released the name of a boy who died in a collision while skiing at Alta.
Henry Rampton Kendell, 14, of Millcreek, was in the Sugarloaf area of the Alta Ski Area just before 10 a.m. Sunday when he collided with another skier, according to the marshal's office. The boy, who was unconscious when emergency personnel reached him, was flown to Primary Children's Hospital where he died from his injuries.
"He leaves a legacy of joy, abundant energy, humor and unfulfilled dreams and potential. His passing has torn a gaping hole in the hearts of so many who knew and loved him. Life with him was so sweet. Life without him will never be the same," Henry's online obituary states.
"Henry had a naturally sanguine personality. He was without guile, always ready to play, make a party and have an adventure. Henry loved to be outside, climbing his mountains, sledding down Neff's Canyon under the stars and skiing his favorite trails at Alta. Henry was always eager to celebrate life."
The teen was a member of the Skyline mountain bike team, an avid tennis player and enjoyed duck and pheasant hunting with his grandfather, the obituary states.
Henry is survived by his parents and three older siblings.
"He leaves behind many family and friends who will forever be better because of his life. We will survive this loss, because we loved him so, and will honor his life with the way we choose to live."
The family also thanked the Alta Ski Patrol, the police officers and Intermountain Healthcare's Life Flight crew, who respond to the accident on Sunday, as well as the staff at Primary Children's Hospital.
"Our heartbreak is their heartbreak," the family wrote.
