THE ARCADE — Every so often, an absolute pro struts into an arcade and shows the rest of us how a game is played. These hustlers have spent countless hours perfecting their techniques. They know every trick and every shortcut. Most importantly, their muscle memory is impeccable.
These arcade maestros are enigmas. Nobody knows their names, how old they are, or where they live. They appear like apparitions, dominate a few games, and then vanish as mysteriously as they arrived.
One such incident was captured in this video:
The man on the right looks like a sports fan who enjoys occasionally playing the basketball game at the arcade. He is wearing a jersey-like shirt and has excellent shooting form. Make no mistake—this guy isn't a slouch.
But then an older man with a collared shirt tucked into his shorts appears and absolutely destroys the competition. Casually tossing shots as though he's simply throwing one of his striped shirts into a hamper in his apartment, this guy begins to rack up an otherworldly score.
Near the end of his game, the older man even begins shooting into a completely different hoop. Why not? He's obviously not challenged by the hoop in front of him.
Then, with the game completed and his competitors thoroughly decimated, he wipes the sweat from his face, retrieves his shopping bag, and vanishes into the night.
