SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man wanted in a child voyeurism investigation.
On Sunday, officers were called about 10 p.m. to the area of 700 North and 900 West "to reports of a suspicious circumstance involving a gun," according to a prepared statement from the department. Officers who responded to the area determined there was no crime involving a gun and it was not known Tuesday why a gun was believed to be involved in the initial reports.
"However, officers learned through their investigation, an unknown male was seen looking through the window of an apartment while a child was undressing," according to police.
That man was confronted by a "community member," police said. The man then ran from the area before officers arrived.
As part of their investigation, officers were provided a photo of the man suspected of looking in the child's window. The picture shows a man kneeling in the snow with a mask hanging below his chin. The man appears in the picture to be in the process of being confronted by another person. Police did not have any other details Tuesday on who took the photo or what the man was doing at the time.
The man is described as being in his early 20s, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall, weighing 130 pounds. Anyone with information about the man's identity, or anyone who may have seen the man peering in other windows, is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
