CLINTON — Police have identified a man who they shot and killed after they say he stabbed two people in Clinton on Thursday night.

The man was identified as 32-year-old Christopher Anthony Alexander, according to a Friday news release from Clinton Police.

Alexander arrived home to the area of 1700 North and 1300 West about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to police. He then quickly got into a fight with another man who was in the basement and stabbed him multiple times, Clinton Police Chief Shawn Stoker said.

The man who was stabbed then ran to a nearby home for safety.

A neighbor in her 50s apparently heard noise from the incident and came outside of her house, where she encountered Alexander, Stoker said. He then stabbed her multiple times before continuing down the street.

"All the information that we've received at this point is that both of the attacks on the victims were unprovoked. Almost immediate upon the suspect entering the residence, and then clearly attacking a victim that had no involvement whatsoever, probably just coming out to help or see what the commotion was," Stoker said.

Soon after, Alexander "encountered our officers on scene, and that contact resulted in shots being fired," Stoker said.

Police then shot Alexander, who died from his injuries. The chief did not say what actions prompted officers to shoot Alexander.

Stoker said Alexander had been temporarily living in the city. He said police do not know much information about Alexander yet, and they plan to "withhold" the information they do have at this time.

Alexander and the initial stabbing victim knew each other, police said, but the woman did not know Alexander.

Both stabbing victims survived the incident and are expected to recover, police said Friday.

Police had been called to the home where the two men were living in the past, Stoker said. He declined to provide details about those previous incidents.

The Davis County critical incident protocol, which involves third-party investigators, has been enacted. Further details about the incident weren't provided on Friday.
