BRINY BLUE — Surfers can sometimes get territorial when it comes to popular surf breaks. In certain parts of the world, you might even get attacked for trying to ride a wave that is coveted by the local surfers. But nothing puts ownership into perspective like having the true locals make an appearance.

Isn't this video a delight? You can see from the surfer's reaction just how thrilling it was for him to have these unexpected friends share the wave.

At a couple of points in the video, I actually wondered if the surfer might lose his balance. He was so stoked by the wildlife encounter that his own ride seemed to lose importance.

Perhaps this is the long-term solution to surfing localism. If resident dolphins were to ride each contested wave and referee the humans, I think that fighting would decrease dramatically. After all, who on earth can get violent when adorable marine mammals are frolicking nearby?
