SYRACUSE — A 16-year-old boy vandalized and started a fire inside a Syracuse church building Saturday morning, according to Syracuse police.
The Syracuse fire department responded to a fire alarm at a church building belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1112 S. 1525 West at 1 a.m. and found the building full of smoke and a fire that had been extinguished by the building's sprinkler system, according a police press release.
Crews found "several intentional acts of vandalism" and property damage from the fire throughout the building, the release said.
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy, believed to be responsible for the damage. The boy was booked into juvenile detention, and police say they will not release his name because of his age.
The fire and vandalism are still under investigation. The fire is being investigated as arson, according to the police.
