BEAVER DAM, Box Elder County — Authorities have identified a driver who died Thursday in a crash near Beaver Dam.

Mercedes Davis, 22, of Providence, died in the crash, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash took place about 12:07 p.m. on state Route 30 as a Honda Accord was westbound on the highway, UHP said.

Witnesses told troopers that the Accord tried to pass another vehicle at a high speed in a no-passing zone. The driver then lost control and went into oncoming traffic, according to UHP. The Accord ended up sideways in the road and was hit by an eastbound Ford Crown Victoria.

The driver of the Accord, later identified as Davis, died at the scene, UHP said. The driver and passenger in the Crown Victoria were transported to a hospital with injuries that weren't life-threatening.

The crash shut down state Route 30 from Beaver Dam to the Cache County line Thursday, the Garland Fire Department tweeted. Lanes were closed on the highway for over two hours during the investigation, UHP said.
