HARD ROCK STADIUM — Nobody knows how the cat got into the football stadium to watch the Miami Hurricanes take on Appalachian State. And nobody knows why it went up to the upper deck, though it's a safe bet that the feline just wanted to get a bird's-eye view of the action.
Here's what we do know: The cat eventually dangled off the edge of the upper deck, clinging to safety with both paws. Then, like a nerve-fraying scene from Cliffhanger, one of the cat's paws came loose. The crowd below, watching the drama unfold, began to panic.
The whole thing was caught on video as, one claw at a time, the desperate cat lost its grip. Finally, with a brave "meow!" and a flick of its tail, it plummeted down to the lower seats.
Well this may be the craziest thing I've seen at a college football game #HardRockCatpic.twitter.com/qfQgma23Xm

While many of the fans were paralyzed with fear, Craig and Kimberly Cromer leaped into action. The season-ticket holders grabbed the American flag they always display at games and held it out like to catch the falling feline.
"It hung there for a little while with its two front paws, then one paw, then I was like, 'Oh my goodness, it's coming soon,'" Craig Cromer told ESPN.
Thanks to the Cromer's quick thinking, the cat escaped injury — and it even got an exciting announcement from Manny Diaz, coach of the Hurricanes.
"I don't know anything about that or what was going on,'' Diaz said in the postgame interview. "But I'll tell you, if the cat will help us in our red-zone offense, I'm going to see if we can give it a scholarship."
