DIXIE NATIONAL FOREST — The Oak Grove Fire in southwestern Utah is now 50% contained and 50% controlled. Firefighters have been battling the fire since August 29. Nearly 700 acres have burned since the blaze started over a week ago.

The fire is believed to have been human caused and an unattended campfire is to blame, according to an update on Sunday from Utah Fire Info.

The Central Utah Type 3 fire team has turned all operations over to the Dixie National Forest's Pine Valley Ranger District. Fire authorities said the fire has not spread in several days. Crews and engines will be released, however, they do warn that smoke will still be visible for some time. Dixie National Forest will continue to monitor and patrol the fire and adapt operations as necessary.

Fire crews worked to combat the blaze and had to make their way through head-high vegetation, including the mahogany, chaparral and oak brush that were the fire's primary fuel throughout the forest.

Forest officials are reminding people to make sure all fires are completely extinguished before leaving any area.
