SALT LAKE CITY — A Chicago man who police say was too intoxicated to get on a plane was arrested at the Salt Lake City International Airport after refusing to leave.
Christopher Vick, 28, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Thursday night for investigation of two counts of assault on a police officer, trespassing, intoxication and damaging a jail.
Vick was being rude and belligerent and making threats while waiting for a flight to the point that Delta Air Line officials told him he could not get on the plane because he was too drunk, according to Salt Lake police. The airline tried many times to get Vick to leave the airport and even offered him a seat on another flight.
Police were called as Vick was being escorted outside of the secured area of the airport.
"Christopher refused to leave and was arrested for trespassing and public intoxication. His intoxication was apparent due his own statements, slurred speech, poor memory, and inability to choose a reasonable course of action and making threatening statements," according to a police booking affidavit.
As police were transporting Vick to jail, an officer reported noticing that Vick had managed to get his handcuffed hands in front of him and was going through a bag. Police pulled over to take care of the situation, and as soon as they opened his door, Vick attempted to fight with officers and run away, the affidavit states.
"Throughout the fight Christopher assaulted officers by biting, kicking, attempting to break fingers, and strangling officers by placing one in a chokehold," the affidavit says.
Once police were able to get Vick back in the police car, he allegedly kicked the doors and windows.
