SALT LAKE CITY — Major League Baseball officials announced Thursday that the minor league season is getting an extension. For the Salt Lake Bees, it means there will be 10 more games, including five more games you can attend at Smith's Ballpark this season.

The Triple-A West season was originally slated to end on Sept. 21; however, the league announced that its adding two final five-game series that will begin Sept. 23 and Sept. 29. The Bees' season will now end Oct. 3, which correlates with the end of the MLB regular season.

The league hasn't yet announced which series the Bees will play at home or who they will play in the two extra series.

The extra games may have championship implications, too. The team with the best record on Oct. 3 will be declared the Triple-A West champion. Entering Friday, Reno holds a 4 1/2 game lead over Sugar Land in the league standings, which could easily be erased in a 10-game span.

The Bees (22-26) remain just 9 1/2 games behind Reno with now three full months left in the season.
