SALT LAKE CITY — A man who police say rammed a patrol car while an officer was still inside, has been arrested.
On Monday, police spotted Ethan Wayman, 25, sitting in a suspected stolen vehicle, according to a police affidavit. Officers moved their patrol cars in front of Wayman's vehicle to box him in.
But Wayman "put the stolen vehicle in drive and rammed the police car with an officer still inside of it," the affidavit states. "The action was intentional and could have caused serious bodily injury to the officer."
He then backed up to create space before putting the car in drive and speeding away.
On Wednesday, Wayman was spotted again by Salt Lake police walking along a street, the affidavit states. When Wayman spotted the patrol cars, he began running away and "attempted to open the doors of two different motorists as if he was attempting to steal their vehicles," according to the affidavit.
Officers caught up with Wayman and were forced to stun him with a Taser before placing him in handcuffs, the affidavit states. Drugs were found in his pockets at the time of his arrest.
Wayman was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of assault on a police officer, being in a stolen vehicle, failing to stop at the command of police, drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and interfering with an arresting officer.
