SOLDIER SUMMIT — An 18-year-old woman was seriously injured in a crash near Soldier Summit on Friday, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.
About 1:50 p.m., a westbound sedan left its lane for unknown reasons and crossed a median. The sedan then collided head-on with an eastbound van with two people inside, according to Utah Highway Patrol trooper Colton Freckleton.
The two people in the van were uninjured but the driver of the sedan sustained serious injuries. Freckleton said that the driver's injures were not considered to be life-threatening. Initial reports from Utah Highway Patrol said the driver of the sedan was a man, but they later corrected themselves and said it was a woman.
The driver of the sedan was transported by ambulance to a medical helicopter, which then transported her to a hospital.
Officials said that it is unclear why the driver crossed the median, but it is not suspected to be weather-, medical- or intoxication-related.
State Route 6 was closed in both directions near Soldier Summit for approximately two hours but has since reopened, according to Utah Department of Transportation.
