SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of carjacking two people at knifepoint in three days has been arrested by Salt Lake City police.

Rigoberto Jesus Galdean, 21, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Thursday for investigation of two counts of aggravated robbery.

On Monday, Galdean approached a woman sitting in her car near 1300 South State, "pulls out a knife, opens the victim's drivers door, and forces the victim out of the vehicle. The suspect Rigoberto Galdean, then makes the victim get the keys to the vehicle, gets in the victim's vehicle," according to a police affidavit.

As of Thursday, that vehicle had not been found.

On Wednesday, police say Galdean followed another victim, "and when the victim got in the rental vehicle to drive … (Galdean) got into the back passenger seat and said 'I have a knife' and something about a carjacking," the affidavit states.

The victim got out of the car and ran. Galdean took the rental vehicle and started driving recklessly, prompting multiple calls to police, according to the affidavit. He then wrecked the stolen car near 1500 South and 300 East, police stated. Officers searching for Galdean found him in the area of the crash and arrested him.

"A federal complaint and detainer are pending on Rigoberto," police noted in the affidavit.
