LEHI — A man accused of assaulting his dogs with his skateboard was arrested Monday by Lehi police.

Wilfredo Tomas Gonzalez, 43, of Lehi, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of two counts of drug possession, failing to stop at the command of police, cruelty to animals, marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police were called about 9:15 a.m. to the area of 1500 N. State Street in Lehi.

"Multiple witnesses had observed a male, who had a skateboard and three dogs, physically assaulting the dogs with his skateboard," according to a police affidavit.

An officer spotted Gonzalez walking along State Street and ordered him to stop and talk to him, but Gonzalez kept walking, the affidavit states. The officer then drove up to him with his emergency lights and siren on.

"He got onto his skateboard and took off," according to the affidavit.

The officer was able to catch up and grab Gonzalez off of his skateboard and hold onto him. During a search of his pockets, police found meth, marijuana, THC vape pens and "two small baggies containing pills," the affidavit states.

The affidavit does not state what types of dogs were allegedly assaulted or the extent of their injuries, but noted that they were taken away by an animal control officer.

"In speaking with the animal control officer, who spoke with all witnesses and gathered statements, he stated Mr. Gonzalez's actions appeared to be disciplinary in nature, but had crossed a line causing obvious alarm to the public with multiple callers," according to the affidavit.
