SALT LAKE CITY — A woman accused of dropping her 5-year-old daughter off at an ex-boyfriend's house without telling anyone she was coming was arrested over the weekend.

Police also noted that while attempting to locate Janae Marie Schultz, 35, they called her house where her 10-year-old son, who was alone, answered the phone.

Schultz was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of child abandonment.

On Saturday, Schultz pulled up to a residence in West Valley City and "yelled at her 5-year-old daughter to get out of the vehicle and go inside the house," according to West Valley police.

While still yelling at the girl, the homeowner came out to find out what was going on. The homeowner is an ex-boyfriend who has no relation to the child, according to a police affidavit. Schultz then drove off without saying anything.

"(Schultz) also never made any sort of reasonable arrangement for the safety and care for her child," the affidavit states.

Police attempted to contact Schultz by calling her house where her 10-year-old son, who was alone, answered the phone, West Valley police stated. Other family members were called to take care of the children.

Schultz was located early Monday and booked into jail.
