Utah Online School is a front runner in providing critical educational options that open doorways for students no matter their academic situation or goals.
Below are just a few of the specialized programs that thousands of Utah students are taking advantage of through Utah Online School.
Summer school education
When summer school is discussed among Utah Online faculty and staff, there is an excitement that is tangible. "I always enjoy teaching, but students attending summer semester with UOS bring a special energy. They are driven. And that drive is contagious. It's nice to be around students of this caliber," said Kellie Richins, a UOS language arts teacher.
Utah Online School is proud to offer a robust variety of free summer classes. With these courses, students can get ahead on credits and enjoy extra flexibility in their regular school year schedule. This means more time for extracurricular activities, concurrent enrollment, internships, and anything else.
According to the Verywell family, the benefits of summer learning extend far beyond grades. Because of the slower pace and specialized attention from teachers, students often excel in classes that would have otherwise been difficult.
Savannah, a summer school student at UOS said, "Last summer I took foods and nutrition. My mom helped me with some of the labs, and I taught her some cooking and safety skills that I learned in class."
Another student enjoys a more active approach to his summer school. Spencer takes PE during the summer and uses his physical activity as his PE log. "It was a great experience and I loved getting high school credits at home," said Spencer.
Grade replacement
Sometimes life brings unexpected events that interfere with students' learning and ability to maintain their GPA and academic goals. Luckily, Utah allows students to replace grades on their transcripts through the grade replacement program.
Enrolling with Utah Online School, students can replace courses whenever it works best for their schedule.
"The end of last school year was difficult for me because of COVID and school closures," said one student. "Because of this, my grades suffered in a couple of classes. I was able to replace these grades taking Utah Online courses. It felt so great to submit my transcript to colleges this year, it really showed who I am as a student."
To ensure your student follows the correct procedure for grade replacement at their boundary school, they will need to speak with their counselor.
Credit recovery
Even for students who struggle or fail classes in school, hope is not lost. Utah Online School offers credit recovery to help students across the state get back on track for graduation.
While it's available all year, summer is a great time to take advantage of the credit recovery program. For a flat $50 fee, students can recover as many courses as they want during a nine-week session. As soon as a course is complete, they can start a new one, which allows students the opportunity to complete courses as quickly as they are able. They'll also have daily help from mentors.
Schools across the state trust Utah Online School and routinely refer students seeking makeup or original credit.
"Dusty and I just want to thank you and the online school program for being an option for school/credit recovery," said one UOS parent.
"Without you guys, Dusty may have lost all hope and not graduated, but because of you and the online program, his hope was restored and I'm so thankful for you and the online school. He worked so hard and was able to reach his goal of graduating. So thank you so very much!"
