SALT LAKE CITY — Here are the latest updates on the fallout from Wednesday when a mob breached the U.S. Capitol in a last-ditch effort to derail the counting of Electoral College votes for President-elect Joe Biden.

Supporters of President Donald Trump protested outside the Capitol and eventually made their way inside the building on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a lockdown of the building. The ensuing violence left five people dead, including a police officer.

This story will be updated with the latest information as the situation develops.

Google suspends Parler from Play Store; Apple issues warning

Google has suspended Parler, a social networking site with a significant base of Trump supporters, from the Play Store until the app adds "robust" content moderation, Reuters reports, and Apple has issued a 24-hour warning to Parler to submit a moderation plan."For us to distribute an app through Google Play, we do require that apps implement robust moderation for egregious content," Google wrote in a statement. "In light of this ongoing and urgent public safety threat, we are suspending the app's listings from the Play Store until it addresses these issues."Parler promotes that its app allows users to post "without fear of being deplatformed for your views." Twitter permanently suspends President Trump's account

Twitter announced Friday evening that President Donald Trump's account has been permanently suspended "due to the risk of further incitement of violence.""In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action," the social media platform posted from its Twitter Safety account.Trump's account was temporarily suspended Wednesday after he released a video and statement asking rioters to go home but continued to spread misinformation on widespread voter fraud.Twitter said the platform is designed to "enable the public to hear from elected officials and world leaders directly," however it has made the decision to enforce its policies preventing the app from being used to "incite violence."—Jen Riess, KSL.com

Speaker Nancy Pelosi issues statement calling Trump to resign, threatening impeachment

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued a statement on Friday after a virtual meeting of the House Democratic Caucus. She said the conversations in that meeting were "sad, moving and patriotic" and led to their belief that President Donald Trump should be removed from office."It is the hope of Members that the President will immediately resign," Pelosi wrote. Laptops stolen from Democrats' offices during storming of US Capitol, says aide

A laptop was stolen from the office of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi during the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, one of her aides said to Reuters on Friday.Drew Hammill, an aide to Democrat Pelosi, said on Twitter that the laptop belonged to a conference room and was used for presentations. US Capitol Police confirm 1 officer has died

U.S. Capitol Police said officer Brian Sicknick died due to injuries he received while responding to the pro-Trump riot Wednesday. Sicknick died Thursday evening."Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters," the police said in a statement obtained by Reuters.

DC Police identify those that died during Wednesday's riots, offer reward for arrest of pipe bomb suspect

Washington, D.C., Police identified those that died on Wednesday during the violent mob at the U.S. Capitol building. They are:

Ashli Babbit, 35, of Huntington, Maryland, died of a gunshot wound.

Rosanne Boyland, 34, of Kennesaw, Georgia, died from a medical emergency

Kevin Greeson, 55, of Athens, Alabama, died from a medical emergency

Benjamin Phillips, 50 of Rington, Pennsylvania, died from a medical emergency

Police also shared information about the 68 people that were arrested on Wednesday. One person arrested was from Washington, D.C.; 11 people were from Maryland and Virginia; 50 people were from Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Michigan, Oregon, New York, Connecticut, Arizona, Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin, California, Colorado, Wyoming, Maine, Illinois, West Virginia and North Dakota. Six people had no fixed addresses.

Tragically, 4 individuals lost their lives yesterday:

35 y/o Ashli Babbitt of Huntington, MD died of a gunshot wound.

34 y/o Rosanne Boyland of Kennesaw, GA; 55 y/o Kevin Greeson of Athens, AL; and 50 y/o Benjamin Phillips of Ringtown, PA all suffered medical emergencies.

U.S. Capitol Police released a statement denying reports that an officer has died as a result of Wednesday's events, according to Reuters, NPR and The Hill."Although some officers were injured and hospitalized yesterday, no USCP officers have passed away," Capitol Police said in a statement obtained by NPR. In a statement Wednesday, the Utah Republican Party condemned the violence by a mob at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C."A hallmark of our democratic republic is the peaceful transition of power. Members of Congress plan to return to certify the Electoral College Wednesday

A reporter who is with evacuated U.S. congress members says that U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-New York, said they plan to return to certify the Electoral College today as soon as the Capitol is secure, according to Matt Fuller with the Huffington Post. U.S. Capitol police expected to be able to remove the mob within half an hour but it is taking longer than anticipated, Fuller reported.

Sergeant at Arms comes back and says, "since we're in tight quarters, I would recommend that everyone wear their mask."

Utah State Capitol not evacuated, UHP official says

Earlier reports of the Utah State Capitol being evacuated are not true, Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Nick Street told KSL.com.People working at the Capitol in Salt Lake City were offered an "early work release" opportunity to leave the building and work from home instead, according to Street.There was no evacuation conducted and no evacuation ordered as of Wednesday afternoon, he said. Protests on the Capitol grounds had been peaceful throughout the day, Street added.

Georgia secretary of state's office evacuated day after runoff election

Georgia's secretary of state and his staff have evacuated their offices at the state Capitol as armed protesters gathered outside, according to the Associated Press.Gabriel Sterling, a top elections official, said Wednesday that it was an internal decision made by Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to have his team leave."We saw stuff happening at the Georgia Capitol and said we should not be around here, we should not be a spark," Sterling told The Associated Press.About 100 protesters gathered at the state Capitol in Atlanta on Wednesday to protest President Donald Trump's election loss.
