ENOCH — A trooper with Utah Highway Patrol arrested a man who had a warrant out of Helena, Montana, for homicide after pulling him over for reckless driving on Tuesday, officials said.
Utah Highway Patrol trooper Brian Bairett was parked roadside on I-15 near Enoch in Iron County around 4 p.m. Tuesday when Cedar City Dispatch Center received multiple calls about a driver who was tailgating, speeding, cutting in and out of traffic and driving aggressively. The car had just passed Bairett northbound on I-15 and Bairett turned on his emergency lights to make a traffic stop. The car then started to pull over before it quickly turned back onto I-15 as if the driver were going to flee, officials said.
The driver then shortly after pulled over again and came to stop. Bairett identified the driver as Troy Allen Mullin, 37. After entering Mullin's information into his state computer and through Cedar police dispatchers, he discovered that Mullin had a warrant out of Helena, Montana, for homicide. Mullin was then arrested without incident.
Additionally, Bairett found five empty beer cans, with one half full, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the car Mullin was operating, UHP said in a statement.
Lewis and Clark County Sheriff's Office, based in Montana, said in a wanted poster that Mullin had been sentenced twice for parole violations and has prior convictions for criminal endangerment; intimidation; burglary; escape; and sexual intercourse without consent, with the victims being under the age of 16. Mullin is listed as a sexually violent predator.
Mullin has been booked into the Iron County Jail where he will await extradition back to Montana.
