SYRACUSE – Syracuse and Bonneville High School are transitioning to remote learning for the second time due to an increase in positive COVID-19 cases, the districts announced on Monday.
Syracuse High School was scheduled to begin a pilot testing program but failed to reach the 80% threshold of students tested, with only 68% being tested. Additionally, 19 more people tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the school to 27 positive cases according to the district dashboard. Classes will not be held on Tuesday, and students will begin remote learning on Dec. 8.
Students and teachers will then remain in remote learning through Friday, Dec. 18, with Winter Break beginning on Dec. 21. The district didn't note when in-person classes would resume.
Davis School District, in coordination with the Utah Department of Health and the Davis County Health Department, tested students at Syracuse High School's gym Monday morning. Monday morning. According to a press release, 29 nurses from the three entities assisted in the effort.
Bonneville High School also will be transitioning to online learning on Dec. 8. The district reports that Bonneville currently has 22 positive COVID-19 cases, with 13 cases being reported to the Weber School District on Monday.
Bonneville students will return to in-person learning on Jan. 4 after winter break. Bonneville High previously went online on Oct. 29 after an outbreak of COVID-19 occurred at the school. Students had returned to the classrooms on Nov. 12.
