OGDEN — An Ogden woman was arrested Tuesday after police say she left her two young children alone and a 2-year-old was found screaming outside her apartment.

Anhelicka Jaylynn Lopez, 23, was booked into the Weber County Jail and charged Wednesday in 2nd District Court with two counts of exposing a child to a controlled substance, a third-degree felony; reckless endangerment, assault on a police officer, and drug possession, all class A misdemeanors; and interfering with an arrest, a class B misdemeanor.

Just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, police say a 2-year-old child was found by a neighbor wearing only a diaper and T-shirt, alone outside the child's apartment and screaming. The neighbor also found an 11-month-old child inside the apartment and the oven turned on and open, but there was no sign of their mother, according to a police booking affidavit.

The neighbor called Ogden police who went to the apartment. Inside, officers found drug paraphernalia and "dirty diapers and dirty milk bottles scattered throughout the apartment," the affidavit states.

After learning the mother's name, police tried to call Lopez but no one answered. The Division of Child and Family Services was then called to take custody of the children.

Just before 8 a.m., Lopez called police back.

Officers had been on scene for approximately an hour before contact with Anhelicka was made. Anhelicka told me that she had left to get milk from Walmart.

–Police affidavit

"Officers had been on scene for approximately an hour before contact with Anhelicka was made. Anhelicka told me that she had left to get milk from Walmart. Anhelicka stated it took her so long because she was walking," the affidavit states.

But when Lopez arrived at her apartment, police said she did not have milk or any other grocery items. As officers attempted to arrest her, she resisted and kicked one officer several times, according to the affidavit.
