NEPHI — One person died and another was injured after their van rolled through an embankment on Monday between Leamington and Nephi, Utah Highway Patrol said.

Around 5:20 p.m., a van was traveling west on state Route 132 when it ran off the side of the road, according to UHP Lt. Nick Street. The driver of the van corrected, steering the van back onto the road, and over-corrected traveling back off the right side of the road.

The van then traveled up a large embankment where it rotated counterclockwise and began to roll, officials said. The van rolled down the embankment where it came to a stop.

The driver of the van sustained severe head injuries and passed away, according to UHP. On Wednesday, the driver was identified as 58-year-old Hope Baer, of Delta, according to Street.

The passenger of the van suffered minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. Both the driver and passenger were wearing seatbelts.

Troopers say that a medical condition may have contributed to the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

Further details were not released.
