SALT LAKE CITY — An abandoned building was destroyed in an early morning fire on Monday.
Salt Lake City fire crews were called to 646 N. 300 West about 4 a.m to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the structure. Even though the former commercial structure has been vacant for some time, firefighters found two people walking out as they arrived. Those people were being questioned Monday.
The building is a complete loss. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation. Salt Lake Fire Capt. Anthony Burton noted that this time of year the city typically has a problem of homeless people seeking shelter in abandoned structures,
In August, fire destroyed another abandoned building that was close to Monday's fire.
