HEBER CITY — Police responded to several calls in the Wheeler Park Community on Thursday following reports of multiple gunshots, according to the Heber City Police Department.
Around 5:10 p.m. Thursday, officers responded to several calls placed by people living in the Wheeler Park Community reporting that there were multiple gunshots fired in the neighborhood. According to police detective Tammy Thacker, officers were immediately on the scene and began conducting an investigation.
Neighborhood resident Jolene Munford said her 10-year-old daughter was watching a show in her bedroom when one of the bullets burst through the wall, less than 4 feet from where her daughter sat. The girl thought a light bulb had exploded from the sound it made. Upon further inspection, she found drywall dust and insulation scattered around the room and realized it wasn't caused by a light bulb but a bullet, said Munford.
"Our neighbor had been walking across the street in front of our house when the shooting happened. He had to duck for cover from the bullets he could hear zipping over his head and skipping off the asphalt around him" said Munford. "Many other people in our neighborhood heard the shots and bullets, including a group of kids playing down the street."
Police at this time do not believe anyone was targeted, and there are no reported injuries.
"It is unknown if this is a drive-by," said Thacker.
