SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for a man who they say shot at two men in a parking lot in Salt Lake City early Thursday morning.
Salt Lake City police received a 911 call shortly after midnight saying that a man was attempting to rob the caller and his friend at gunpoint in the Lowe's parking lot on 1300 S. 300 West, according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Dave Cracroft.
Cracroft said the suspect had stopped the two men and demanded cigarettes; when the two victims refused, he pulled a gun. The men then scuffled over the firearm. The 911 operator heard several shots fired during the call, Cracroft said.
The caller said that his friend had been shot in the back, but it was later reported that the shot had gone through his shirt and there were no injuries.
When officers arrived at the scene, an officer spotted the man across the parking lot, Cracroft said. Police say that the man then ran between two apartment complexes to the south where they lost him. Cracroft said it's possible the man lives in the apartment complex or has a friend who does.
Officers said the man may still be in the area and they are checking surrounding surveillance video, Cracroft added.
