MIDWAY — A woman is dead after being hit by a car Saturday evening and a driver is in custody, officials said.
According to a Facebook post from the Wasatch County Sheriff's Office, dispatchers received a call around 10:30 p.m. from a man saying he hit a woman with his vehicle and she is seriously injured, possibly not breathing. The man told officers he was staying with the woman.
Emergency Medical Services arrived and immediately began life-saving efforts. The woman was then transported via ambulance to Heber Valley Hospital where she died from her injuries. She was identified Monday as 49-year-old Susan M. Cameron, of Missouri, according to Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Nick Street. Authorities initially said Cameron was from Midway, but confirmed Monday she is from Missouri.
The driver, identified by officials as Colby Gertsch, 39, of Midway, was booked into the Wasatch County Jail for investigation of automobile homicide, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a motor vehicle negligently causing death, according to the sheriff's office.
Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
