SALT LAKE CITY — Back in March, during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic hitting Utah, several parking ordinances in Salt Lake City were suspended, allowing residents more flexibility in parking in the city.
That all comes to an end in a few short weeks.
On Thursday, Salt Lake City officials announced the enforcement of previously suspended parking ordinances will return on Nov. 1.
Here are the reinstated ordinances:
- Time limited parking on certain streets (Ord. 12.56.450)
What it means: Since March, drivers could stay parked in a spot longer than a posted time limit restriction.
- Using streets for storage of motor homes, boats and trailers prohibited (Ord. 12.56.525)
What it means: Vehicles, boats, motor homes, trailers, or other items could previously stay parked in the same spot for more than 48 hours.
- No stopping or parking; color markings and signs (12.56.310B)
What it means: Residents must again adhere to traffic zones set up by city engineers. Red zones mean “no stopping, standing or parking at any time,” and “yellow means no stopping, standing or parking except as designated by appropriate signs or traffic markings,” according to the city code.

The city previously suspended parking meter fares amid the pandemic but later resumed enforcement in August.
Before Nov. 1, anyone in violation of the above ordinances will receive a warning citation (without requiring payment) in an effort to inform citizens of the upcoming change.
However, once November hits, any cars in violation are free game for citations with fees. So don’t forget to move your cars after Halloween.
