SALT LAKE CITY — One person died after two cars collided in a Salt Lake City intersection early Thursday morning, police said.

Police responded to the intersection of North Temple and State Street about 12:30 a.m. and found a man deceased inside his car, according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Dave Cracroft.

Police believe the car was northbound on State Street when the driver of an eastbound silver Nissan ran a red light and collided with it.

The name and age of the deceased have not yet been released.

The female driving the Nissan was taken to University of Utah Hospital but the extent of her injuries was not immediately known.

Police believe the Nissan was speeding at the time of the collision.
