SOUTH SALT LAKE — A local nonprofit is in desperate need of reusable water bottles for students in the Granite School District.
State COVID-19 regulations required schools to shut off drinking fountains to prevent the spread of the virus. Each class has access to a water filling station — but buying reusable bottles isn’t always feasible for families.
“There’s a lot of need in this district, especially with the heat,” Brent Severe, CEO of the Granite Education Foundation. “There are 68,000 students in the district, and 65% are at or below poverty.”
The Granite Education Foundation hopes to collect 10,000 bottles after getting these requests from teachers.
The nonprofit is asking the community to donate any plastic or metal bottles, which it hopes to collect and distribute as soon as possible.
“This is something we’ve never requested before, so we are hopeful that businesses and individuals will hear our cry for help and step forward and help us meet this need,” Severe said.
