MILLCREEK — The body of a 75-year-old man reported missing after going hiking in Millcreek Canyon was found Wednesday.

Curtis Booth left his house Tuesday morning to hike Grandeur Peak, said Unified Police detective Kevin Mallory. The last contact he had with his family was in the afternoon when he called them to say he had reached the top and was headed back down, Mallory said.

By 5:45 p.m. family members notified Unified police that Booth was overdue. His vehicle was located in the parking lot but Booth was not found on any of the trials Tuesday evening.

Wednesday morning, the Department of Public Safety helicopter was brought to the scene to search areas off the trail. Mallory said sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m., Booth’s body was found at the bottom of a steep hillside. Police believe he fell an estimated 50 feet or more.

A hoist from the helicopter was used to recover the body.
