SALT LAKE CITY — A Price police officer has been arrested and accused of having an affair with a woman who was under the supervision of Adult Probation and Parole.
Micheal Gordon Jones, 30, was booked into the Emery County Jail on July 31 for investigation of custodial sexual relations.
The investigation, conducted with help from the Carbon County Attorney’s Office, began July 30 when it was learned that Jones “was possibly having a sexual relationship with two women who were under the supervision of Adult Probation and Parole,” a police booking affidavit states.
That information was acquired by a parole agent and a Carbon County sheriff’s deputy, according to the affidavit.
Police interviewed one of the women who stated she was “in the drug court program and that she is currently under the supervision of Utah Adult Probation and Parole. She explained to us that she had sexual intercourse with Mike Jones, a Price police officer on four separate occasions,” the affidavit states.
The relationship started in February and ended in July, according to investigators.
“She told us that she was aware that this relationship was not allowed, because he was a police officer and that she was on probation. She also informed us that Mike had told her to not tell anyone about their relationship, specifically her probation officer and drug court tracker because they were required to report this,” the affidavit says.
When Jones was interviewed, he admitted having a relationship with the woman whom investigators had talked to and said that it “went too far,” according to the affidavit. But he denied having illegal relationships with other women on probation.
While transporting Jones to jail, he stated “he was remorseful and sorry to all the people he hurt for his actions,” police wrote in the affidavit.
A city official on Thursday confirmed that Jones has since resigned from the Price Police Department, where he worked for less than a year.
As of Thursday, no formal criminal charges had been filed against him.
