SALT LAKE CITY — Police have arrested a Salt Lake man in connection with the shooting of a 16-year-old boy in July.

Juan Charles Mucino, 23, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail late Thursday for investigation of four counts of assault and 13 counts of illegal discharge of a firearm.

About 2:40 a.m. on July 26, police believe Mucino fired 13 rounds from a Glock handgun with an extended magazine and laser pointer at a vehicle occupied by four people, according to a police booking affidavit.

“One of these rounds struck a 16-year-old male in the leg. The other 12 rounds struck occupied homes and unoccupied vehicles in the area,” the affidavit states.

The victims were able to identify Mucino “because they know him and considered him to be a friend,” according to the affidavit. The group said that prior to the shooting, Mucino and other friends were involved in an altercation at a club.

An updated condition on the 16-year-old was not immediately available.
