TAYLORSVILLE — One child has died and two more people were badly injured in an auto-pedestrian incident at 5095 S. 3200 West in Taylorsville on Tuesday.

The crash was first reported just after 3 p.m. Unified police later confirmed that a car had slammed on its brakes to avoid colliding with a dog but was hit by a truck. The collision spun the car and pushed it onto the sidewalk, where a mother was pushing her 2-year-old twin daughters in a stroller.

One of the twins was confirmed dead by Unified police. The other twin and her mother are in critical condition, police said.

Sgt. Melody Gray of the Unified Police Department told KSL TV, "This is a horrifically tragic accident. I mean, the reality is we have a stroller on the sidewalk. They weren't like on the road crossing against traffic or anything. This is just really a tragedy."
