SANDY — One man was hospitalized in critical condition Friday after a shooting at Sandy's Liberty Heights Apartments that police say was the result of road rage.

Anthony Vigil, 28, has been arrested in connection with the shooting, according to Sandy Police Sgt. Clayton Swensen.

Swensen said the incident occurred about 9 p.m. at 8176 S. 1300 East. A 23-year-old man was driving through the apartment complex, and Vigil "took issue with his speed and manner of driving," Swensen said.

Vigil confronted the driver, and a verbal confrontation escalated into a physical one. The driver was ultimately shot multiple times in the legs and torso, Swensen said.

"So it was basically a road rage incident," according to Swensen.

The man was transported to the hospital in critical condition, but Swensen said his prognosis had improved by Saturday. Police do not believe the two men knew each other before the incident.
