Randall Jeppeson reporting
"We do have some meth, and coke, and marijuana, along with some firearms," said Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit Sgt. Bill Robertson.
Police had been doing surveillance, and say gang members have been distributing drugs out of some apartments in the neighborhood of 300 South and Cheyenne Street. Several men were cuffed and taken away and immigration officers are now involved because police believe some of the suspects could be illegal immigrants.
"There have been several instances down here that the city's had to respond on, on aggravated assaults and aggravated situations," said Robertson. "There have been weapons recovered in vehicles trying to get out of the area. There have been rounds found down here, spent casings. Obviously the city and metro gang unit knew we had to come down here and make an impact, clean up things."
