PASADENA, Calif., Sep 13, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- Dawnn Lewis, from TV's "A Different World," is set to play a singer hiding out in a convent for a stage production of the Hollywood film, "Sister Act."

The 46-year-old actress will reprise the role Whoopi Goldberg made popular in the 1992 film for the production, which will be headed by Peter Schneider when it makes its world premiere Oct. 24 at the Pasadena Playhouse in California, said Playbill.com.

For the upcoming production, which will also play Atlanta's Alliance Theatre beginning Jan.17, Alan Menken will provide its original musical score while Glenn Slater produces it lyrics.

Choreographer Marguerite Derricks and musical director Brent-Alan Huffman will also be on hand to bring Cheri and Bill Steinkellner's writings to life on stage.

The Web site said that performing alongside the "Street of the Sun" actress in her newfound sisterhood will be stage actresses Elizabeth Ward Land, Amy K. Murray, Beth Malone, Audrie Neenan and Henry Polic II, who will play Monsignor Howard.
