(KSL News) A power outage earlier this morning didn't discourage voters.
Rocky Mountain Power said about 2,000 homes and businesses were without power on Salt Lake's east bench area of Foothill Drive and Parley's.
At 10:46 a.m. a substation at 2750 E. 2700 South had an equipment failure.
Among those without power were two polling stations: the First Congregational Church at 2150 S. Foothill Dr. and the All-Saints Episcopal Church at 1710 S. Foothill Dr.
At the First Congregational Church power was out for about an hour and a half. The voting machines are supposed to have back-up power, but for some reason the machines were not charged. Instead of using paper ballots, voters wanted to wait for the power to be restored.
The Salt Lake County Clerk's Office dispatched generators, which eventually got a couple of machines running. Poll workers said voters were pleasant and patient while they waited for the power to return.
The All-Saints Episcopal Church was running on generators until power was restored just before 2 p.m.
Despite the outage and the wait, the county clerk's office says there was no significant disruption to voting.
